The Composed Canine Program: for the Reactive Rover

Does your dog get over stimulated in public and ignore your voice? Does your dog react to the door bell or go out of his mind when you or your guests arrive? Does your dog seem to get upset over ordinary, everyday things? The list can go on.

Program Goals:
Reduce or eliminate your dog’s reactions to triggers (things that overwhelm or distress your dog) and be able to pass a trigger on a walk reaction free.

Program Description:
The Lead Me On Composed Canine Program is a positive training program using the science of behaviorism.
You will learn how to use science-backed tools to change your dog’s high emotional responses to triggers to desired responses where he/she either asks for help or can manage his/her own emotions.

This program has group classes without dogs, group classes with dogs and private lessons. There are three levels of accomplishment for the program:
1. Basic – The ability to address individual triggers and illustrate success on 1-3 specific triggers.
2. Intermediate – The ability for your dog to reach and maintain an emotional level that allows him to learn new fun and desirable behaviors in the presence of triggers. Your ability to teach those new behaviors using Operant Conditioning.
3. Advanced – The ability to attend full length group classes with your dog.

Composed Canine Program Classes:

COMPOSED CANINE: INTRO CLASS
This is a Group Class (NO DOGS). This class goes over the science and exercises needed to start changing your dog’s emotional responses. This information is best learned without the risk of your dog’s reactive behavior distracting you from your study. So, leave your dog at home but bring your leash and treat pouch.
FIRST PRIVATE LESSON
If you start with a private lesson the first lesson will cover the same information that is in the Composed Canine Intro class but your dog will be with you and you will practice with your dog in the last 10-15 mins of the lesson.
PRIVATE LESSONS
In Private Lessons you will receive individualized instruction on how to identify your dog’s trigger(s) and then use the science you studied in Composed Canine Intro to create exercises to start changing your dog’s emotional responses to the identified triggers.
COMPOSED CANINE: OUT AND ABOUT BASICS
These are group classes where you use your car as a “safe place” for your dog and practice in public with individual instruction from your trainer. Each person gets coaching AND the opportunity to observe others being coached. Your learning will increase by watching others.
LEAD ME ON ORIENTATION
This is a Group Class (NO DOGS). In this class you will learn the basic skills needed in clicker training. For example, Good Form, Leash hold, Park and UnPark and more. You will also learn about how timing, and criteria are used to create precise reliable behavior. The facility logistics, program and class details are also covered so you will know how the program works.
COMPOSED CANINE OUT & ABOUT: INTERMEDIATE
In this class you and your dog will practice getting closer to triggers while working on new behaviors using clicker training.
COMPOSED CANINE: CLASSROOM PREP
In this class you will be in the classroom with your dog working through the typical triggers that will happen during a “regular” dog class. The instructor will help you keep your dog green and only present the triggers at a level where your dog can be successful.
COMPOSED CANINE: PARKING LOT TRIGGERS
In this class you will be in the parking lot of Lead Me On Campus with your dog working through the typical triggers you will experience in our campus parking lot. The instructor will help you keep your dog green and only present the triggers at a level where your dog can be successful.
COMPOSED CANINE: IN & OUT OF BUILDING
In this class you will learn new skills on how to transport your dog to and from your car to the classroom. You will work through the typical triggers that will happen during a “regular” dog class. The instructor will help you keep your dog green and only present the triggers at a level where your dog can be successful.
COMPOSED CANINE: OUT & ABOUT (ADVANCED)
In this class you will work on The Pet Dog Program behaviors at appropriate levels for your dog while being in close proximity to triggers.
COMPOSED CANINE: GOOD MANNERS
This class is the same curriculum as in The Pet Dog Program only the other dogs and humans are all Composed Canine Teams. In the class you will learn how to teach your dog basic manners for around the house. For example, MAT work to keep your dog out of the kitchen when you are cooking, waiting at doors and thresholds, and other handy behaviors used in the house to enjoy each other’s company.
COMPOSED CANINE: COME WHEN CALLED
This class is the same curriculum as in The Pet Dog Program only the other dogs and humans are all Composed Canine Teams. The focus in the class is to learn how to get a really reliable recall for your dog. You will also learn lots of different games to play to keep that recall good for a lifetime.
COMPOSED CANINE: LEASH WALKING
This class is the same curriculum as in The Pet Dog Program only the other dogs and humans are all Composed Canine Teams. In this class you will learn how to walk on a loose leash with your dog. This is a relaxed walking technique used for casual walks in the neighborhood where you and your dog get to enjoy the environment together.
