Dog Training
Ursula and a few of the gang in the front pasture.

Ursula's specialty is teaching people how to create close, loving, fun, and trustworthy relationships with their dogs.  She does this by teaching positive training methods and effective communication skills.  Working with dogs on their level increases the understanding between our two species.

Before you can expect your dog to behave in public, at home with guests or just hanging out with you he needs to know what your "expectations" are.  Unfortunately for dogs, many of their innate doggie behaviors (the things that make a dog a dog) are the very things that get them in trouble.  For instance jumping on guests and trying to lick faces or sniffing crotches are normal ways of greeting for dogs.

If dogs didn't have the ability to creatively search out and find food they would never be able to survive in the wild.  This kind of behavior is frowned upon at home when it means they are up on the counter or in the garbage looking for a tasty treat.  How about when your dog growls at you, a guest, or another dog when they are chewing on a yummy bone?  This can get dogs in really big trouble yet is still a natural behavior that keeps others from stealing their hard earned food in the wild.

Your responsiblity as your dog's advocate, leader, and friend is to teach your dog all the rules that go along with living with a different species, the HUMAN.  Without this training, your dog's only hope of getting it right is through trial and error until they figure out how to get the things they want from you and the other humans the live with.

Good dog leaders demonstrate calm, confident, and patient energy in their interactions with the pack.  This calm confidence projects a sense of safety, security, and trust creating cooperation and obedience in all pack members.

Our training focuses on your relationship and interactions with your dog while you learn to effectively train through Leadership.

Training Classes

Level 1
Basic Leadership and Control

This class introduces basic leadership and dog "language" fundamentals.  You learn how to teach your dog to be calm, quiet, and cooperative.  The exercises include attention, sit, down, stay, beginning recalls and control exercises for the out of control dog.

Level 2
Leading the Walk

When the "pack" is on the move, your leadership is of the utmost importance to your dog.  This class focuses on loose leash walking, improving recalls, and practicing your leadership skills away from home.  Leading the Walk is also a great introduction
to Agility.  We will use jumps and pause tables to help your dog learn loose leash walking.

Level 3
Off-Leash Walking and Food Delay

At this level you know the principles of Leadership and are ready to begin off-leash exercises and food delay.  These exercises increase your dog's self control and home obedience skills.

Each class session is 6 weeks, one hour each week.
